Islanders Eliminated

5/12/2026 • Flax Laplante

The New York Islanders playoff run came to an early exit in the second round, falling in five games to the Philadelphia Flyers. While the series didn’t go our way, the effort from our squad was evident until the final whistle.

The Flyers showed exactly why they finished at the top of the standings this year. After dropping the first three games including a tough 5-0 shutout at home, the Islanders showed incredible heart by roaring back in Game 4 with a 6-4 victory to extend the series but ultimately, Philadelphia proved too strong, closing things out with a win in Game 5

A major silver lining for this group has been the presence of Sidney Crosby. His experience, leadership and veteran presence have been a positive influence on everyone in the locker room.

Our young players have learned so much from this grueling playoff experience. Seeing rookies like Lane Hutson, a deserving Calder finalist, perform at this level gives us immense confidence. Other young talents like Will Smith and Denton Matevychuk have also gained invaluable experience that will make them much more prepared for the grind of next season.

A huge congratulations to the Philadelphia Flyers organization. They put up 112 points in the regular season and played a nearly flawless series. They set the gold standard for the DCHL, and we wish them the best of luck as they continue their pursuit of the Cup.

There is no denying it: the Metropolitan Division is one of the hardest division in DCHL.  The 7 game series between Islanders and New Jersey took a beating on us. And with four teams topping the 99-point mark, every night in this division is a battle.

While this exit hurts, we are keeping our head high. Finishing the regular season with over 100 points proves that we belong among the elite. Our focus now shifts immediately go to the off-season as we will evaluate our roster and refine our strategies. With our young core better prepared and our veterans leading the way, the Islanders are going to be ready for next season
