Kings add former 1st overall pick to rebuild
11/11/2025 • Kaylen Peterson

LOS ANGELES - Kings' GM Peterson spent his Remembrance Day not only being thankful for the courage and sacrifice of those far braver and more heroic than him, but also working the phones in the never ending effort to turn LA into a perennial Pacific Division powerhouse.

Despite combining for 3 goals and 5 points in a shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Hampus Lindholm were informed shortly after the game that they had been traded to the Seattle Kraken. In return, the Kings acquired Jordan Staal, David Perron, and hulking, former 1st overall pick Owen Power. About the trade, GM Peterson said "we're absolutely thrilled to add Owen to our group here. We gave up a lot, but you have to give in order to get, and at the end of the day we felt the juice was worth the squeeze. Owen is a big, intelligent defenceman capable of anchoring a top pair, and he's barely 23 years old. He gives us another foundational piece to build our blue line around and we're super, super excited to get him in a Kings sweater."

In the trade, Seattle also receives Tampa Bay's 2026 1st round pick, Colorado's 2027 1st round pick, a conditional 2026 2nd round pick, $5,000,000.00 cash, and prospect Jack Nesbitt, who was selected in the first round of the 2025 draft.

"We were very high on Jack, we still are," said GM Peterson, "we think, with his size and hockey IQ, he's a high-floor, high-ceiling kind of prospect capable of becoming a 1C in this league. But like I said, you have to give to get, and with the rest of our pipeline up front, ultimately we were comfortable with the cost of acquiring Owen. We think he legitimizes our defence and see him being a top-pair fixture in the very near future."

Adding Power to the core of promising young players gives the Kings an even deeper blue line moving forward, and another cornerstone player for a promising young core. If everyone continues to develop, and with one or two more top-5/top-10 picks in the upcoming draft, Kings fans have a lot to look forward to.
