Predators Shut Out by Stars Despite Jarry’s Brilliance

The Bridgestone Arena crowd of 18,000 came ready for a Sunday matinee showdown between Central Division rivals. What they got was a goaltending duel that tilted ever so slightly in favor of the visiting Dallas Stars, who slipped past the Nashville Predators 1–0 in a tight, physical contest.
Jarry Stands Tall in Defeat
Predators netminder Tristan Jarry did everything short of scoring himself. The veteran goaltender stopped 26 of 27 shots, including several point-blank saves on Jason Robertson and Patrik Laine, keeping his team alive deep into the third period.
“Jarry was phenomenal,” said head coach Lane Lambert. “He gave us every chance to win tonight. We just couldn’t finish.”
Jarry’s lone blemish came 2:25 into the third, when Seth Jarvis redirected a Mike Matheson shot past him for what proved to be the game’s only goal.
Offense Frozen at Home
While Nashville’s defensive structure held, its offense never found rhythm. The Predators managed just 18 shots on Stars goalie Vitek Vanecek, who posted his first shutout of the season with 18 saves.
The Predators had five power-play chances but came up empty — a continuation of an early-season trend that has seen their man-advantage sputter.
Captain Jacob Trouba logged 25:08 of ice time, while Marcus Pettersson led all skaters with 26:17. Forwards Lawson Crouse, Reilly Smith, and Nino Niederreiter each logged over 20 minutes but couldn’t solve Vanecek.
“We were too perimeter,” said Niederreiter. “Their goalie saw everything. We’ve got to get to the net, make it ugly.”
Penalty Parade
Both teams traded minor penalties throughout, combining for 10 infractions but little to show for it. Nashville’s penalty kill went a perfect 5-for-5, highlighted by key blocks from Nick Jensen and Brian Dumoulin.
Still, the lack of sustained zone time proved costly. The Predators’ best look came midway through the third when Robby Fabbri ripped a shot off the crossbar during a delayed penalty — a play that had the crowd groaning as the puck deflected high into the netting.

Looking Ahead
The Predators (3-7-0) now, they will host the Tampa Bay Lightning next.
“It’s frustrating,” said Jarry. “We’re playing the right way — but at some point, we need results. Nights like this, you feel like one bounce could change everything.”
